About Gothic Comics

Gothic Comics was created by JD Boucher in 2014 to be the resource for comics with Gothic themes and styles. The site also offers content about Gothic Comics news and releases.

FAQ

What is the point of this website?

Gothic Comics is a resource, your one source to find great and significant Gothic Comics. I also write about why they’re important to the genre, or why they’re just great comics.

Your writing seems awfully biased for a comic journalism site.

Well it's a good thing I'm not a journalistic site then! This is site is more of an archive other than anything else. I'm more curator than editor. My bias is "I love these comics, think attention should be brought to them, and hope you like them too!"

Why did you make it?

I love these comics, it was these comics and comics like these that got me into comics as a medium. I also feel like the Goth scene and the art that was created from it is significant, and should catalogued in some form. This is my best effort to do that.

How could you possibly forget about (insert comic or creator here)?!

I’m doing my best to track down everything! If you know a comic I’ve forgotten, just contact me and I’ll see what I can do to read it and get it on here.

Will you post my Gothic Comic or my recommendation for one?

I’d love to! Send it my way! I accept review copies of comics, both physical and digital. If you'd like to submit a post on your favorite comic just send it my way!

Please note that as a college student my funds are limited, and I won't be able to buy and read every comic you throw my way. I also won't be pirating any comics, so spotlights of free or web comics will probably come along faster than printed ones.

Are there limits to what can be in a comic?

I made this website to focus on Gothic Comics, so if I think something doesn't really fit with the genre or style of other comics on the site, I won't post it.

I’m not going to censor anyone, free expression is essential for all art. On top of that, most Gothic comics deal with a lot of sensitive topics in ways that would not be acceptable in a lot of other places. HOWEVER, I’m not going to promote a comic on my site that advocates for or romanticizes racism, sexism, homophobia, or transphobia. If you want to make those kinds of comics, you can promote them elsewhere.

If you're not sure, feel free to contact me. I love reading comics, Gothic or not, and even if it doesn't fit in on this site, I'm sure I can direct you to some sites where you can promote it, and I will always give you an explanation on why I didn't include it on the site.

Why do some comics have posts about them, and others just have a dash?

If a comic has a dash, it means one of three things.

1.I haven’t read it yet, so I haven’t written about it.
2. I have read it, but I haven’t gotten to writing about it.
3. I just felt neutral or negative towards the comic, so I don’t really have much to say about it. If you'd like to write about it though, I'm happy to take guest-posts (that aren't from the author).

You haven't updated in a while, did you die?

Yeah, probably, or things like work (including other freelance comic work) got in the way. But I'll move hell and highwater to make sure we get some updates for the spookiest month of the year: October.

Will you post my Gothic Art on your site?

If it's just cool art of gothic men, ladies, or skulls, I won't post it on the main site, but I'll totally post it on any and all of the social media networks we have.

Will you post my fan-comic, short comic, or preview for a full comic on the site?

Sorry, I will only be posting full, original, free comics on the main site. But if you have some preview pages, comic short, or fan-comics/fan-art of any gothic comics, I'll likely post it on the blog. Just contact me.

Does Gothic Comics publish comics? As of right now? No. If there’s a demand? Maybe.
Contact me if you have any questions about publishing comics. I also write and edit comics if that’s of any interest to you.

How can I support your site?

Just keep coming to the site, tell your friends and follow us on one of our many social networks!

I have no plans on making money on this site, so really the only cost we have is hosting. If you want to help with that, just let me know!

I still have more questions!

Well I (hopefully) have more answers! Just contact me. Email is the most effective way to get ahold of me for longer requests.
